About
the Director
Matvey Krivolapov started making films at eleven in Tomsk, Siberia, and won his first national festival that same year.
Since then, his work has moved between narrative and experiment: Tohu Wa-Bohu, scored with the Japanese post-rock band Anoice, carried a story built in a childhood bedroom in Tomsk onto festival screens across Europe. Alla Marèa was honored in Italy, and I Don’t Eat Fish won the Audience Catalyst award in Hollyland’s 2025 Rising Stars program. His early shorts have screened in Rome, Amsterdam, Maastricht, Berlin, and Stockholm. He now lives and works in Berlin, where he studies filmmaking and directs.
Matvey follows a discipline of working with very little — one room, one relationship, one unbearable silence — and making that enough. His films are precise, single-location studies of people under emotional pressure: love breaking down, grief that won’t resolve, facing the loss after constantly avoiding it. Memory and the subconscious are where his scripts start, and performance is where they end; he’d rather spend a week with two actors in one location than a day with a crowd.
